Mana Presents: Spektral Quartet
Season Opener

IMMERSION: Music of Cage, Beethoven, Krauss, Weisert, Ingebritsen, and Schubert (Season Opener)

Spektral Quartet's aim is always to place the audience at the center of our concerts, but for its season opener, they’re getting literal about it. Recent works by Lee Weisert (Polychoron(b)) and Ryan Ingebritsen (4x4 3 birds) spread the quartet to the far corners of the room, the former bodily and the latter figuratively through amplification, enveloping the listener from every angle. The ensemble is de-magnetized as well for a new commission from Morgan Krauss (the other is contained in the one (divisions of opacity)) in which the composer endows each player with a different text as a touchstone for individual, stylistic approach. They’ve chosen Curtiss Hall and Mana Contemporary as the intimate locales for this sonic immersion, the program balanced out by John Cage’s restorative rumination on the seasons, String Quartet in Four Parts, Schubert’s grand-slam Quartettsatz, and Beethoven’s paragon of counterpoint, the stunning Große Fuge.
